Born in Honolulu, HI, Garrick Gondo’s love of Hawaiian culture, music and dance began during the 1970’s, now known as the Hawaiian Renaissance. Garrick first learned about Hula for a May Day celebration in the third grade. Then in 2002, after watching a hula performance in Saratoga, Garrick finally had the inspiration to join a hula school and enroll in classes. He has studied with Leolani at the Hula School of Santa Cruz for over 10 years. Garrick believes that studying Hula has put him on a path of lifelong learning – enriching the hula experience through the interconnected study of music, history and culture of Hawaii.
