Born in Honolulu, HI, Garrick Gondo’s love of Hawaiian culture, music and dance began during the 1970’s, now known as the Hawaiian Renaissance. Garrick first learned about Hula for a May Day celebration in the third grade. Then in 2002, after watching a hula performance in Saratoga, Garrick finally had the inspiration to join a hula school and enroll in classes. He has studied with Leolani at the Hula School of Santa Cruz for almost 9 years. Garrick believes that studying Hula has put him on a path of lifelong learning – enriching the hula experience through the interconnected study of music, history and culture of Hawaii.
